Well, i think artist is more in the directon of actor / singer / painter
while author is more in the direction of writer / copyright owner
so IMHO they are not semantically equal but similar.
Though i guess a native englishmen could clarify this much better.

Its not that you shouldnt use gotos but rather that you should write
readable code and code with gotos often but not always is less readable
