I think Attila still had an image of the broken hdd, perhaps you mean
that?  In any case the hardware was damaged so that image was corrupted
and parts could not be restored.  Also, the samples collection was not
terribly high on the priority list IIRC, repositories, mailing list
archives etc. were more important.
