There are other ways using container specific tools (AsfBin, avijoin,
ogmcat),
but using ffmpeg I only know of two more other ways:
a) using an Avisynth script as input or
b) the unapproved pip vhook.

These ways looked a bit out of topic to me, but I may reference them in
the patch if are of interest.
