So where exactly is the problem?

I'll try to be a tad more precise: If it's just that the commits will
not pass the pre-commit checks, then I can easily disable them
(temporarily) for the file(s) in question.

While I share this view, the powers that be have a different opinion.
Then again, it's not a problem if git makes wild guesses about a file's
history instead of letting the user specify it ...
