That is very odd.  It takes less than 5 seconds to run on my Linux machine.
Given, it's a 2.66GHz Core2, but the difference shouldn't be that huge.

Could you try running it with ksh and/or /usr/xpg4/bin/sh instead?  I'd be
curious to find out the time taken by those.
