No, you stated you intend to revert any change...

Since a consensus does not seem likely, what about a configure option
--enable-strict-kilo, that would be off by default, but when on would
mean k=1000 and K=1024 both for options and for output? That would
separate the 'do we do it' issue from the 'what should we do', and leave
Mans & al. with exactly the same behavior as now.

Whether it should be K or Ki or something else should depend on what ISO
standards have to say about it, and if they're silent, on the principle
of minimal astonishment.
