Sorry, I have been very busy and I did not find the time to work on this
as I wanted... I apologize.

Anyway, I think the "import swscale in the ffmpeg tree and use it in
ffmpeg" part of the plan is done, but the "without breaking mplayer"
part is not ready yet:
- I think the "ffmpeg part"
(http://feanor.sssup.it/~luca/SwS/patches/) is ready (I lost 2 patches -
similar to move-ffmpeg-to-sws.diff - for converting output_example and
ffplay to the swscale interface, but I will rewrite and publish them
during the lunch break).
- I think the modifications to swscale
(http://feanor.sssup.it/~luca/SwS/swscale.diff or
http://feanor.sssup.it/~luca/SwS/libswscale) are acceptable (there still
is some work to do - for example, moving to ffmpeg format names only,
probably substituting memalign with sws_alloc, etc - but I think this
can be done in a second time)
- The mplayer patch (http://feanor.sssup.it/~luca/SwS/mplayer2.diff) is
not acceptable yet... I wanted to split the "cleanup part" (change
#include "postproc/rgb2rgb.h" in  #include "swscale.h", the
libvo/vo_x11.c part, and similar things) and submit it to
mplayer-dev-eng, but I did not find time. I hope to do it in the next
week. The mplayer part is giving me more headaches than expected :(
