Apparently :-( I recompiled everything just yet, and still the same
problem. 

Maybe someone else can confirm/negate this?

Hmmm, mplayer links to x264 statically (any chance of a shared version?)
so I can't check which version is included. I don't hope they have
included the full x264 source into the mplayer tree :-(
