You forgot this one. If you run ./ffplay -y 1000 test.avi the y parameter is 
ignored and the video is shown at its native resolution. This differs from 
specifying -x by itself.

Well, actually by "default" I was referring to the video's native resolution not 
480, but if it preserves the aspect ratio, that is fine with me.

Actually, I was referring to manual resizing by using the mouse (e.g. a 
SDL_VIDEORESIZE event). This isn't a regression, just a bug.
