RealMedia is another of those "open" formats-- like QuickTime and RTSP
and CORBA-- that are infinitely extensible. They are designed to be
"open" standards that comfortably transport proprietary data.
My point is that understanding the general outline of the RM format is
not enough-- the interesting stuff is what they do with their own
proprietary stuff inside. I would like to document this based on what
various projects have reverse engineered... but I just can not build up
that much enthusiasm for Real's stuff.
