I just checked in gcide, and you're right, it's there - but all of the
listed meanings (and specifically the given examples) are what I would
characterize as archaic, to one degree or another. It may or may not be
significant that all of the examples given - for both the verb and
adjective senses - are cited as from a 1913 edition of Webster's...
I don't claim to be a perfect authority on the English language (or even
the American one), but I would certainly have never suggested using that
term in any context intended for public consumption unless you did not
care whether or not it were recognized. (Which may well be the case
