I've been using them for a while now on FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT amd64
(with dvdbackup and vlc) and didn't notice any problems.

Attached is a patch to fix an "API violation" warning.

I'd also appreciate it if the patches provided by Paul would be
accepted.
