Well, we're not just talking about installing the tiny libraries.  I'll also
have to build and install something big with lots of options and compatibility
concerns such as Xine to use those libraries.  In case you missed the
beginning of my story, I started out by building a system like that, one
package at a time from source code, and ended up, after a fair amount of
engineering work to make the pieces fit together, with something unusable
(jerky video).  So in my subsequent efforts, I wanted to try something 1)
quick, so I wouldn't waste more time on something ultimately unusable; and 2)
what other people are doing, since I seem to be the only one who can't
play DVDs.  Hence my search for a pre-assembled package.
