Yes, exactly.
Perhaps we could pass a pointer to an additional struct with extra
parameters (such as function pointers to IO functions) to a new
function called dvdnav_open_ex().

Hm, without decent support in there it will be rather pointless IMHO.
This is one of the reasons I previously asked about incorporating
libdvdcss into the dvdnav repo @ mphq.
