[DVDnav-discuss] DVD works with dvdnav but not with dvdread

I'm still a bit uncertain where the true problem lies in this case so
I've narrowed it down to this question:

Does dvdnav offer the same functionality as dvdread in terms of
reading one single title (and no more, not jumping back into menus or
anything) while still running the dvd-vm so that "crippled" DVD's will
work?

If this is the case, then the problem is with vlc. If not, then I
think that functionality should be added to dvdnav. Either way, it
seems wrong to me that the vlc guys are recommending to use the
dvdread backend when ripping only a single title since this will
obviously not work with quite a few DVD's.
