$ ldd `which gmplayer` | grep libpng
        libpng14.so.14 => /usr/lib/libpng14.so.14 (0xb7200000)

$ ldconfig -p | grep libpng
        libpng14.so.14 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng14.so.14
        libpng14.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng14.so
        libpng12.so.0 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0
        libpng12.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng12.so
        libpng.so.3 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng.so.3

No idea why there are so many but they all show in my current installed
package tree (slackware-current).

$ ffmpeg
ffmpeg version N-32640-g72b33ea Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the FFmpeg
developers
  built on Jan 22 2012 13:23:46 with gcc 4.5.3
  configuration: --enable-shared --enable-pthreads --enable-gpl
--enable-libxvid

I do both mplayer and ffmpeg from svn, so yes, I'd be glad to help.
