[MPlayer-users] First 20 seconds of MPEG are all black

(This may not seem to make sense, but I will be using -edl to remove
commercials once I get this working)

Simply put, the first 20-30 seconds of the resulting mpg file are all
black, and have no audio.  The source mpg file has video and audio there.

Also, while encoding, I get a bunch of errors like these:
ERROR: scr 1073.968, dts 0.000, pts 1073.868
ERROR: scr 1074.010, dts 0.000, pts 1073.940
ERROR: scr 1074.070, dts 0.000, pts 1074.012
