I think this is a problem with the card detection, which is currently only
using the pci id. This means that although you have a radoen 7000 it is
being treated as a ddr, and this evidently doesn't work. Fixing this will
require taking the subsytem id into account as well.

In the mean time running X in 24 bit should solve the problem.
