Ok, that is clear, I tried this, but I get confused by this output of
"# ./configure":
--- quote start ---
  Disabled optional drivers:
Input: tv-bsdbt848 live.com matroska dvdread dvdcss
Codecs: opendivx xvid libdv libtheora liblzo
Audio output: sgi sun dxr2 nas win32 macosx
Video output: winvidix bl zr dxr3 dxr2 directx ggi xvmc directfb
tdfx_vid tdfxfb 3dfx
--- quote end ---

Under disabled codecs, there is the xvid one. Why? How do I activate it?
As I wrote, I used the "# ./configure --with-xvidcore=/usr/local/lib/
libxvidcore.a" option. No change.

I thougth too, the mplayer configure script would detect the codec. But it
doesn't seem so.

(I now recognize that dvdread and dvdcss is not included, too. But that's
not too important at the moment. I'm confused.)

I can't find a solution in the mailing list nor in Google, so I "can't
help myself". Could You point out where to find help? Or do You know what
I am doing wrong?

Greetings, Stephen
