[MPlayer-users] Converting to divx but not getting any sound

Alright, I'll answer myself then ....

Not that I really understood the problem, but eventually I found a solution to use "-oac copy" and finally get sound. I comapred the file sizes with and without sound (using the "-nosound" option to mencoder) and the difference is about the size of a high quality mp3 file - so it's acceptable.

Still, I would like to get better compression rates by sacrificing audio quality. A bitrate of 64K is very good for a movie. Does anyone know if I can make a divx smaller by changing the audio bitrate, and what is the audio format on DVDs anyways???

I'd appreciate if you dropped me a line. Thanks.

I'm trying to use mencoder to convert a dvd to divx. I get picture but no sound. I have made sure that libmp3lame is installed and was picked up by the configure script and available in "-oac help". Other than that I have no ideas what I might be doing wrong.

The command I use:

mencoder -ovc divx4 -divx4opts br=2500 -oac mp3lame -lameopts br=64 -x 480 -y 270 -endpos 60 -o powers.divx -dvd 1 /dev/dvd

(btw - even if I don't specify "-oac mp3lame" explicitly I get the same result).
